We have conducted 4 Sharing Sessions for the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) for Blocks 401 – 428, Choa Chu Kang Ave 3/4 in April/May 2016. During these sessions, we showcased the proposed NRP plans as well as collected residents’ views and suggestions on how to further improve on the plans.
We were delighted to see many residents’ eager participation, and would like to sincerely thank you for your feedback and support for the NRP. For those residents who were unable to attend the sessions, you may still send the Town Council your feedback and suggestions by emailing to info@ccktc.org.sg.
We look forward to seeing the residents again in August/September later this year for the Public Consultation, whereby the enhanced NRP plans will be unveiled.

Launched in 2013, My Block Sparkles is an annual competition aimed at raising awareness as well as encouraging residents to keep their estates clean. This year, we have repackaged My Block Sparkles into a “Champions League” format, which will pit all 5 divisions’ selected blocks in 3 rounds of intense competition.
Together with the Residents’ Committees, we will coordinate campaigns and activities for residents to participate in. In turn, we need your help to maintain the cleanliness and the safety of your block. Your participation and efforts towards keeping your estate clean and safe will contribute to the overall assessment.
All households within the top 3 winning blocks will be entitled to a one-off S&CC rebate. A plaque will be installed at the void deck as well to recognise the efforts made by residents.

Last year, we came together as a nation to mourn the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, founding father of Singapore and our nation’s First Prime Minister. Mr Lee, a strong supporter of Singapore’s greening efforts, had a dream to turn our country into a garden city. Since the inception of the annual Tree Planting Day, he has never missed a single tree planting event.
One year later, we decided to honour that dream.
Together with Sparkletots Pre-school, Chua Chu Kang Town Council held 2 commemorative tree planting events; one in Chua Chu Kang, and another in Bukit Gombak. Both were respectively attended by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health and MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC (Chua Chu Kang), and Ms Low Yen Ling, Mayor of South West District, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC (Bukit Gombak) and Vice-Chairman of Chua Chu Kang Town Council.
It was a both a fun and meaningful day. The children had an opportunity to voice out their understanding of our nation’s progress over the years, and they enjoyed the short session out in the sun as they assisted Mr Gan and Ms Low with the planting of the Tembusu Trees.
As we progress together as a nation, let us continue working together to uphold that garden city dream for both our children, and our children’s children.
We cordially invite the residents of Block 401 – 428 Choa Chu Kang Ave 3/4 to join us at the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) Sharing Sessions! The proposal and design for the NRP will be revealed; you will also be able to voice out their views and suggestions through the Sharing Sessions.
The precinct will see improvements to the common areas through the renewal and provision of additional facilities with the Government’s fully-funded NRP. The NRP will only be implemented if at least 75% of the eligible lessees in this neighbourhood support it. Thus, we look forward to your active participation and support for the NRP!
The Integrated Family Playground located at Block 355 Bukit Batok Street 31 was officially re-opened by Dr Amy Khor Lean Suan, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, MP for Hong Kah North and Vice-Chairman of Chua Chu Kang Town Council on 28 February 2016.
The children can now have fun with other neighbouring children at the upgraded playground which consist of an innovative new-concept cycling station called “Speed Racer” which uses human kinetic energy to power an electronic racing game board. Game on!

Singapore, 13 February 2016 – Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Adviser to Chua Chu Kang GRC GROs (Keat Hong), unveiled extensive plans to rejuvenate Keat Hong at the constituency’s Lunar New Year celebration dinner. The plans fall under the vision of KEAT HONG 2020 where the constituency will see a significant part of the estate revitalised over the next four years into a vibrant and contemporary residential hub, incorporating the latest facilities to encourage an active lifestyle. This is the first time the constituency has branded all these developments under one banner.
Said Mr Zaqy Mohamad: “Keat Hong is a neighbourhood with a lot of history; where many residents have lived here for two generations or more. The estate, therefore, needs to be rejuvenated with the “hardware” component, while strengthening the community spirit with the “heartware” component.
We would also like to empower our residents with more say and involvement on how their estates can be improved under KEAT HONG 2020. They will have more opportunities to voice out their views and suggestions through our sharing sessions. The first sharing session will kick start in April 2016 under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).”
Fostering Community Ties and Encouraging an Active Lifestyle

* “Heartware” will take the form of community initiatives by People’s Association and Grassroots Organisations to strengthen the community spirit in Keat Hong.
* The upcoming five-storey Community Club @ Keat Hong, located opposite Lot One Shoppers’ Mall, will be the first Community Club in Singapore to have an 18-lane bowling centre as well as a ceiling to floor LED wall located at the centre of the plaza where residents will be able to enjoy movie screenings and possibly, ‘live’ sports matches in future. Residents can also look forward to the family-friendly 24-hour gym when it opens in December 2016.
* Apart from this iconic lifestyle hub, together with People’s Association, the Grassroots Organisations will continue to serve the residents with initiatives which are tailor-made and catered for the different groups of residents.

* “Hardware” consists of at least $50m worth of upgrading projects which will be undertaken by Chua Chu Kang Town Council, Housing and Development Board (HDB), Land Transport Authority (LTA), NParks and various agencies.
* Children in Keat Hong can look forward to Singapore’s first-ever “castle-themed” playground and an innovative new-concept cycling station called “Speed Racer” which uses human kinetic energy to power an electronic racing game board.
* Under the NRP, Blocks 401 – 428 in Choa Chu Kang Ave 3/4 will see improvements to their common areas. The heart of the precinct will take on new life as a Mega Active Lifestyle Hub, consisting of a playground, fitness corners, and game courts suitable for residents of all ages.
* Apart from the upcoming sharing sessions for this particular NRP which will kick start in April 2016, residents can also expect to receive similar invitations to attend sharing sessions or to provide their suggestions through surveys in the near future for various projects like Large-scale Town-wide and Repairs & Redecorations.
Improving Connectivity to Public Transport & Amenities
* Mooted by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, residents can expect the traffic flow to improve with the stretch of Choa Chu Kang Ave 4, between Choa Chu Kang Loop and Choa Chu Kang Drive, to be widened by the second quarter of 2016.
* Residents will also benefit from the phased implementation of sheltered linkways within 400m radius of the Choa Chu Kang MRT to major pathways. These will be implemented in phases, in tandem with the development of the new Community Club, road widening works as well as the bus interchange upgrade.
In addition, there are other initiatives being planned under KEAT HONG 2020 and these will be revealed in due course.

Recently, various media reported that not only are the number of dengue cases expected to increase this year, but the cases are also expected to spike earlier than in previous years.
We will continue to diligently inspect the estates for potential dengue breeding sites, and to carry out our scheduled fogging.
We also encourage residents to be vigilant of mosquito breeding in their homes. About 80% of mosquito breeding sites were found in our residents’ homes. The external areas such as construction sites, shopping centres and surrounding areas make up the remaining 20%.
We hope that residents continue to take all necessary precautions to keep safe from dengue.

With the festive period coming up, Chua Chu Kang Town Council would like to help our residents with their spring cleaning efforts by upgrading our free bulky items removal service.
From 4 Jan 2016 to 5 Feb 2016, all bulky items that are left at the designated areas at the void deck will be collected daily by the Town Council. There will be signage at the void deck to point out the designated areas. There is no cap on the number of things you can discard during this period.

Dear Residents,
Following the recent unfortunate lift accident where an elderly lady’s hand was trapped, Chua Chu Kang Town Council embarked on a comprehensive inspection of all lifts within our estate. This was conducted in addition to our regular routine checks.
From 12 October onwards, our Lift Maintenance teams started the first round of checks on the lift safety features. From 15 to 16 October 2015, our officers inspected over 1800 lifts. Their main aim was to ensure that all safety measures were functioning properly and to rectify any faulty sensors or door safety edges.
We would also like to encourage residents to report any lift faults by calling 6569 0388 (during office hours) or 1800 275 5555 (after office hours).
Together, we can make our town a safer place for all.
