Gifts from the Heart

Migrant & Me*, conducted workshops at Dazhong Primary School, teaching the P5 students about migrant workers and the importance of being good neighbours.

As the lessons progressed, the students’ curiosity and empathy grew. They learned about the challenges faced by migrant workers, who left their families to work tirelessly in Singapore. The students began to see these workers in a new light – as individuals deserving of respect and gratitude.

The students prepared care packs, containing essentials such as masks, biscuits and drinks; and made heartfelt appreciation cards for the estate cleaners under the Chua Chu Kang Town Council.

On a sunny Friday afternoon, the students made their way to Chua Chu Kang Town Council, eager to distribute the care packs to the cleaners. As they approached the cleaners, initially hesitant smiles blossomed into warm exchanges.

“We have prepared these care packs to thank the cleaners for keeping the neighbourhood clean!” said Qushayyie Eshan, one of the P5 students (pictured above).

“We are all very happy to receive the care packs from the children. I am experiencing this for the first time and proud of what the children did for us.” said Saiful, a migrant worker from Bangladesh (pictured above).

The students had learned a valuable lesson that everyone deserves dignity and appreciation. They also realised that even small gestures could bring joy to others.

In the days that followed, the cleaners continued their work with renewed spirits, feeling grateful for the display of kindness. As for the students, they carried the memory of those smiles and the knowledge that their actions could make a difference.

Together, let’s create a Chua Chu Kang Town we love. A home where we all contribute and live better.
