Greening Better: More Parks for a Healthier You

Living near green spaces can make you younger than your actual age, a new study has shown.

Researchers from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine found that people with access to green spaces were, on average, 2.5 years biologically younger than those who did not.

The study highlighted how the natural environment, such as greenery, can result in chemical changes in one’s DNA, leading to positive health effects.

Lucky residents of CCK Town enjoy ample greenery. There are numerous large parks in our town. And the good news is, 3 of these will be refreshed with new features & lush spaces.

Bukit Batok Town Park, known to most as the iconic Little Guilin, will revamp its trails to improve visitors’ recreational experience. It will also have a new arrival node on Bukit Batok Avenue 5.

The National Parks Board (NParks) is enhancing the Bukit Batok Nature Corridor, which comprises more than 125 hectares of nature parks and 10 km of trails between the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and the future Tengah Forest Corridor.

NParks said these parks and trails within the corridor will support wildlife movement and improve biodiversity.

Works to redevelop Bukit Batok Hillside Nature Park, famed for its rustic nature and hidden Japanese Torii gates (pictured above), are slated to begin next year.

The 9.2-hectare park, about the size of 13 football fields, will have a new arrival node and trails. The existing water stream will also be enhanced.

Over at the 35.2-hectare Bukit Batok Nature Park (pictured above), there will be a new boardwalk, quarry-viewing decks, exercise plazas and a play area for children.

Existing trails and amenities will also be refreshed, while connections to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve will also be improved.

Works on all three parks are expected to be completed progressively from 2028.

Want to be healthier and younger? Head out to the nearby parks and enjoy being surrounded by nature.
