Prevention is always better than cure

Prevent fires in your home and keep your loved ones and neighbours safe. Play your part and follow these fire safety tips.

1.Always keep watch over your cooking & lighted stoves

Do not leave your cooking unattended. Stay in the kitchen, especially when frying or boiling food. If you must leave the kitchen, even for a short while, turn off the stove. Clear your cooking area and keep towels, oven mitts, and food packaging far away from the stoves. Keep your exhaust clean and avoid grease build-up which can cause fires too.

2.Do not overload power sockets.

Too many devices plugged into a power socket can draw a high current, causing wires and plastic casings to overheat. Overloaded components can also create electrical faults or mild tingles when touching appliances. Only use plugs and electrical devices that have the SAFETY Mark.

3.Extinguish lighted materials properly & completely.

Ensure that your flammable and lighted materials (e.g. candles) are far away from any items that can catch fire easily, such as clothing, books, paper, curtains, etc.

In an emergency, stay calm and do not panic. Always keep your escape passageways clear, evacuate using the staircase and call 995 for fires.
